GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR YOGA PRACTICE 

General Guidelines For Preparations before starting yoga :

  1. “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man/woman healthy, wealthy and wise” is a universal adage. Yoga asanas should be performed in the early morning before sunrise (Bramaha Muhrat). 
  1. Cleanliness of surroundings, body and mind must be maintained, yogic practice should be performed in clean and airy space. 
  1. Yoga practice should always be done on an empty stomach. You should keep a gap of at least 3 to 4 hours after eating food. Gap should be at least 2 hours after eating light food and at least 15 to 20 minutes after drinking water. 
  1. The bladder and bowel should be empty before performing yoga asanas. 
  1. To practice yoga, yoga mats and carpets should be used on flat ground. 
  1. One should wear light and comfortable cotton clothes to practice yoga. 
  1. Yoga should be practiced in an open and ventilated space.

During Yoga Practice 

  1. Yoga practice should be started with prayer. 
  1. Asanas should be done slowly from beginning to end. 
  1. Body movement should be smooth while doing yoga asanas, any type of force pressure/jerk should be avoided. 
  1. Breath should be coordinated with body movements. 
  1. One should breathe though his/her nostrils during yoga and not the mouth. 
  1. Breathing at the end of practice eliminates both body and mind fatigue and helps to feel relaxed. 
  1. People of any age group can practice yoga according to their capacity. 
  1. If any type of pain or any problem occurs in the body during yoga practice, then yoga practice should be stopped immediately. 

After yoga Practice 

  1. Yoga sessions should always end with prayers and peace lessons. 
  1. Bath may be taken only after 15 to 30 minutes. 
  1. Food should not be consumed immediately after performing yoga asanas. 
  1. Light food may be taken after 30 minutes. 
  1. After doing yoga one should take satvik diet like fruits, vegetables etc. Oily and spicy food should be avoided. 

IMPORTANT NOTES:   

  1. Smoking and consumption of alcohol should be avoided during yoga practice. 
  1. Regular practice is very essential in order to achieve better results. 
  1. Most important thing: In case of chronic diseases, pain, cardiac diseases and etc, a therapist should be consulted.
