GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR YOGA PRACTICE
General Guidelines For Preparations before starting yoga :
- “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man/woman healthy, wealthy and wise” is a universal adage. Yoga asanas should be performed in the early morning before sunrise (Bramaha Muhrat).
- Cleanliness of surroundings, body and mind must be maintained, yogic practice should be performed in clean and airy space.
- Yoga practice should always be done on an empty stomach. You should keep a gap of at least 3 to 4 hours after eating food. Gap should be at least 2 hours after eating light food and at least 15 to 20 minutes after drinking water.
- The bladder and bowel should be empty before performing yoga asanas.
- To practice yoga, yoga mats and carpets should be used on flat ground.
- One should wear light and comfortable cotton clothes to practice yoga.
- Yoga should be practiced in an open and ventilated space.

During Yoga Practice
- Yoga practice should be started with prayer.
- Asanas should be done slowly from beginning to end.
- Body movement should be smooth while doing yoga asanas, any type of force pressure/jerk should be avoided.
- Breath should be coordinated with body movements.
- One should breathe though his/her nostrils during yoga and not the mouth.
- Breathing at the end of practice eliminates both body and mind fatigue and helps to feel relaxed.
- People of any age group can practice yoga according to their capacity.
- If any type of pain or any problem occurs in the body during yoga practice, then yoga practice should be stopped immediately.
After yoga Practice
- Yoga sessions should always end with prayers and peace lessons.
- Bath may be taken only after 15 to 30 minutes.
- Food should not be consumed immediately after performing yoga asanas.
- Light food may be taken after 30 minutes.
- After doing yoga one should take satvik diet like fruits, vegetables etc. Oily and spicy food should be avoided.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Smoking and consumption of alcohol should be avoided during yoga practice.
- Regular practice is very essential in order to achieve better results.
- Most important thing: In case of chronic diseases, pain, cardiac diseases and etc, a therapist should be consulted.
